She Is Safe
Anti-trafficking
Combating slavery through prevention, rescue and restoration of trafficking survivors.
Our co-workers show up as friends where girls are being trafficked: transit areas, brothel communities, border towns and conflict zones. Girls are provided STD testing, food and safe passage to a new life.
We accompany rescued women and girls to our safe houses or safe haven villages where they receive spiritual and physical nurture with daily worship, nutrition and love. They gain skills to build lives of dignity and purpose.
Anti-trafficking programs rescued women and girls in China, India, IndonesiaNepal, and Syria this past year!
Economic Empowerment
Transformation Groups, our self-help model, equip poor and marginalized women in literacy, vocational skills, and how to create their own savings and lending pool, as they hear the gospel.
Vocational training benefits many of the African countries where She Is Safe works. Women in Mali and Sudan are less vulnerable to exploitation as a result of vocational training.
Transformation Groups were on the grow in 2013; groups started and expanded in India, Indonesia and South Sudan!
Education
Empowering at-risk children (with an emphasis on girls) by providing educational opportunities.
This includes elementary schools, non-formal educational programs and funds for low-income families to keep children in school.
By integrating abuse prevention with education in China, India and Indonesia, we protected thousands of children from abuse this past year, paving the way for a safer, brighter future!
Spiritual Life
Equipping people to grow in Christ, reach out to their neighbors and take on leadership responsibilities in churches and ministry organizations.
Spiritual life is integral to everything we do. While 1,870 made decisions to follow Christ, another 1,164 women and children joined a bible study or a prayer group.
Thousands of women and girls (and their families) heard the good news of Jesus Christ, many for the first time.
Emergency Response
Civil unrest and economic failure in Mali and South Sudan create a desperate need for emergency funds.
Armed conflict and crop failures in Mali have led to a crisis: 800,000 people are without food, and approximately 3 million are expected to be without something to eat in the coming months. She Is Safe is pressing forward in partnership with the church in Mali to equip the war-torn nation’s most vulnerable women and children. Emergency Response – Mali provides for workers who are exiled, and for rebuilding broken lives.
Men, women, and children have fled their homes to refugee camps within South Sudan and neighboring countries to escape the escalating violence. She Is Safe co-workers in South Sudan are working to provide emergency aid to displaced women. Emergency Response – South Sudan provides:
- aid to over 5,000 elderly, widows and children
- counseling and care
- personal connections to local churches that can provide appropriate care long after the emergency is past
