Dear Praying Friend,
It broke my heart to read a recent news story about the millions of missing children in India. The article described how victims are enslaved in brothels, businesses and homes while those around them are deaf to their cries. Complacency is mystifying to caring people. I am truly grateful that you are one who has heard the cries of these girls!
Our hearts are broken, not because these abuses are something new, but because they are all too common. These tragedies play out every day in the high-risk communities where we focus – families, deaf to the cries of their girls, hand them over to traffickers.
But because you care, together we are making a change in the distorted mindset that girls are a worthless burden on family resources.
Nafia*, a 12-year-old girl, will soon reach the prime age for being sold. Before we began working in her village, her family viewed girl-selling as an opportunity for generating income. As long as she survived in a brothel, typically about 7 years, they would receive monthly payments.
But you have helped us change Nafia from a high-risk girl to a girl who lives in freedom. As you supported our work with her this year, her parents began to learn her worth. We offered God’s view of Nafia and every other girl and boy. “Every person is a gift from God,” we share, “and has important contributions to make to your family, to your community and to this world. Don’t miss out on the joy she is intended to bring you.”
So now, instead of being locked away in a brothel, Nafia is helping her family to raise goats, generating income to pay for her education, and changing the perceived value of girls in her village.
This is an essential part of the mission of She Is Safe – to shine a light on the true worth of girls in places that devalue them – to equip and inspire each one to create a new reality for herself, her family and future generations.
To me, Nafia represents about a thousand girls who are bound to be sold between now and the end of July. We need your help today to intervene for them and share the life-changing truth that girls are worth saving, and worth cultivating.
Will you help us meet our goal to reach a thousand more girls? How many would you be able to free and equip? It takes about $350 for one girl to start a new life this year. Monthly support would be of tremendous help as girls have needs month by month. But in fact, any amount that you can give will help to make more girls safe and free. Click here to give a gift to make every girl safe and free, and click here to give monthly support.
Thank you in advance for your support to shine the light on their true value, and make a worthwhile investment in under-valued girls. Together, we can work to make sure that no girl is devalued – no girl is forgotten.
In His love,
Michele M. Rickett

P.S. Thank you for considering devalued girls worthy of your help.
