Nepal
Trafficking claims so many girls in Nepal that in one district, villages are left with no teenage girls. Spiritual, relational, and economic poverty drive families to sell their daughters into sexual slavery.
To prevent the sale of girls, we have teams in remote villages to offer families God’s view that their daughters were given as a blessing. We provide income-generating alternatives and a school.
Issues Facing Women and Girls in Nepal

-
Nepal does not criminalize all forms of child sex trafficking.
-
Significant trafficking occurs on Nepal-India border.
-
Under false promises, some parents give their children to traffickers.
Anti-Trafficking
Traffickers prey upon poor, rural communities that often suffer food shortages. Under these vulnerabilities, families can see selling their girls as an immediate relief.
Nepal Anti-trafficking works in the highest risk villages to show families a way to address their poverty and keep their daughters. We provide income-generating alternatives such as goat farming. Some of the teen girls have joined the family animal husbandry business or are trained at a sewing school, while younger girls can now go to school.
Families are changing deeply held practices of trafficking in girls, and predators are being prosecuted.

She is too Valuable to sell.
Kaili was not safe from slavery. Her family lives in a poor mountain village where every girl who turns 13 is routinely sold. She had seen older girls disappear and heard that they had been sold by their families.
Once the girls leave with traffickers, they are never seen again. They are absorbed by the massive brothels of India, living out the horrors of sex slavery.
By joining with She Is Safe’s income generating program, Kaili’s family was provided with two goats. As the goats reproduce, the family gives back one to the program so that other families will not resort to selling their daughters.
Kaili is eager to help take care of the goats. She knows that the goats provide for her family. And by helping out, Kaili shows that she is too valuable to sell.
