Niharika was not happy at home and began looking for a way out. She met a young man who convinced her to go to India with him – where he promised they would marry. When they reached the India border, they were intercepted by our border checkpoint
co-workers, who determined that Niharika was in grave danger of the common lure that traffickers use with teen girls: a proposal of marriage that leads to sex slavery. With our help, Niharika was safely returned to her family.

Nepal is infamous as the busiest route for human trafficking, and the majority of those trafficked are females. A recent article from The Guardian details the abuse of women from Nepal as domestic and sex slaves.
